Updates (and my first ICLW!)

So, for those of you from ICLW - a quick run down! I'm 27 years old and my husband and I have been married since November 2009.  After trying to conceive for about six months (officially), we were diagnosed with severe male factor infertility.  We are currently at cycle day 7 (?) for our first round of IVF with ICSI.  We have been lucky so far that everything has been working out fairly easily for us.  We were diagnosed at the end of January, got to see a urologist right away (one of the top in the states - who diagnosed the man with a varicocele that we haven't decided if we'll repair), my insurance is cooperating with some of the payments, and were able to start our cycle in April!  Everything has happened so fast and hopefully by the first week in May we'll be pregnant!

I've been meaning to Update sooner, but work has been insanely busy (life as an ICU nurse and 12hr shifts).  I went to my first doctor appointment since starting stims on Wednesday.  Apparently I'm responding a little too well too quickly... I think the doctor said I had between 9-11 follicles on each side- the largest measuring about 9mm.  At my clinic they don't give out a whole lot of details (and I don't ask - because googling will just get me into trouble) - but I do have access to my medical results/labs since I work for the same hospital.  My E2 was 586, which when the nurse called me that afternoon said it was "a little high."  So we've decreased my Bravelle to 75uints a night, started Menopur 75uints and then started my first injection of Ganirelix last night.  Tonight I will continue with the Bravelle, Menopur, and Ganirelix and then tomorrow I will do just Ganirelix and Menopur.  Doctor appointment is scheduled for Saturday morning.  I am SOOOO stressed out about getting OHSS and I kind of feel like I should be going to the doctor more frequently for ultrasounds and labs.  I just keep trying to tell myself that the doctors and nurses know best (hopefully) and if they were more concerned they would want me to be seen more frequently.  The nurse said the EARLIEST we will go to retrieval will be on Monday.  I have a feeling it will be Monday or Tuesday since she said I am responding well.

As far as symptoms go - my "pooch area" is feeling a little "full" and I have gotten a horrible headache every night since Sunday night.  I have been getting migraines since I was in kindergarten (to the point of nausea/vomiting/light-smell sensitivity, etc) and with my hormones being all out of wack - it must be making me more prone to them.  I usually get a really bad one about twice a month - but this has been three times in four days!  They SUCK and I can't take my normal migraine meds for these.  Three times I have gotten to the point of throwing up and have had to take Tylenol PM which just leaves me feeling groggy the next day. UGH- I know that in the end it will be totally worth it!  Hopefully only a few more days!

Wow, things seem to be moving right along! Good for you :) Sorry to hear about your headaches. I struggle with migraines occassionally as well, so I feel your pain. I hope you receive some relief there soon!

I'm so glad you're responding well! I hope the meds adjustment keeps you on track with the schedule they feel is best for you. Sorry to hear about the migraines... they are the worst!

Glad you are responding so well! My advice for the OHSS would be to start drinking at least 2 gatorades a day starting now. I developed a slight case of it anyway since I had about 16-17 follicles per ovary but I think it would have been much worse if I didn't start drinking the gatorades early. Good luck in the next few days!!

Visiting from ICLW.
Welcome to the blogging world! I've only been blogging for a few months and it has been wonderful. 1) It allows me to vent my frustrations and share my joys. 2) It has helped me to feel connected with others who (unfortunately) understand my struggles.
Hope you have a successful IVF cycle without any complications.

Hi from ICLW. I'm glad you are responding well to the meds for IVF. I'm in a similar situation as you with MFI and pursing IVF. I wish you nothing but the best with your IVF cycle!

B, thank you for visiting my blog!
It is so great that you moved so quickly from diagnosis to treatment (and hopefully a baby very soon). It is also great that you are responding well to the stim medication.

With reference to OHSS my clinic told me to increase my sodium intake early on (as both my AFC and AMH were high) and start drinking at least 1 can of V8 every day. I had 25 follies by the time of ER and believe me even walking was uncomfortable :) but with my increase of sodium and after ER also adding Gatorade, I think I managed to get by with just a very very light OHSS. FX that OHSS stays away from you and good luck with this cycle!

Good luck on your upcoming retrieval. I had mine TODAY and I am feeling sore but okay. I, like you, was also an overresponder and ended up with mild OHSS. It's not too bad... just have to rest, and drink plenty of fluids.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! You and your hubby make an adorable couple! Wishing you lots of luck this cycle... hoping first times the charm ;-)

p.s. I had OHSS but didn't get hospitalized or anything. Just make sure to only drink pedialyte and gaterade after egg retrieval, no water :)

I hope the OHSS stays away for you, my Dr keeps harping on about the risks for me and I'm slightly terrified of the whole thing, drink loads of gatorade and hydralite. Sending you loads of positive vibes for the rest of your cycle!
